The crippled child of mother india

‘Bihari’
in most parts of India this word is termed more as a synonym for dehati or ganwaar
than a word to address a person from a particular state.

I have been to many parts of the country….and one thing I have found common everywhere…..the moment people come to know I am a bihari, their looks change.
They look at me in a different way, like I am an illiterate person who lives in an underdeveloped village.like I am planning to rob them of their belongings.

Sometimes, to make themselves look bigger, people tend to try and degrade someone
weaker. This has been the mindset of most of the people in the country.
Children grow up learning to refrain from biharis…..even when they have never met one.

I remember an incident happened to me in kota(where I was preparing for iitjee).
One of the teachers once lashed out on me saying, “bihariyon ko bahut padi rehti hai
iit me jaane ki” when I could not answer a question he had asked me. I am sure the reaction would have been different had I not been a bihari. In kota students find it very difficult to find rooms, and they have to endure constant blamings, only because they have come from bihar. It comes as a shock to the students who go out of bihar for the first time
when they find out how much they are hated at places they have never been before.
Whenever something wrong happens, they are the first to be accused. Their smallest mistakes are highlighted, usually supported by a, “ek bihari se aur kya expect kar sakte hain”.

That’s exactly the mentality of people, they only expect a bihari to do things wrong, to commit mistakes. This gives them a sense of superiority. They’ll never notice a bihari topping iit or cat or ias, but they’ll happily babble about a bihari who committed a murder or theft.

Though I was born in bihar(and I am not the least ashamed of that as many people think I should be) i have lived there only a few years. So whatever I have observed is more as an observer who has come from outside. And I found out that the image of bihar is much exaggerated than it is in reality. Its just an unfortunate state which had gone in wrong hands. But now, with the highest development rate in the country, we see a brighter future ahead.

Bihar…..once a state that made the country proud…Magadha…patliputra…vaishali
…bodhgaya…rajgrih, all shining gems in the Indian crown.
Had nalanda,a university in 9th century which hosted around 10000 students from across the globe, with over 100 subjects and astonishing technology, not been destroyed in 13th century by the khiljis, India would have been the capital of world education.

Bihar, the glorious child of mother India…was not taken care of in its childhood….and
is now crippled. Its upto the other children of the country whether they support their weak
sibling, or shake it off as a liability.
